Wellness Update

|
Next Adventure staff are a group of unique and wonderful people who are open to growth and change that will improve their quality of life.  To help enable this process Rachel Wagner, who works in our climbing department and is studying sustainable living and alternative medicine, has been organizing clinics and trips.  Last week she took a group to the Lents International Farmers Market to shop for foods and produce grown and prepared locally in the Portland area. Find out more about this market at www.localharvest.org.

The week before, Rachel organized a chiropractic information clinic with Dr. Chris Zander. Next Adventure hosted breakfast while participants learned about this complementary and alternative medicine health care profession that focuses on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system.  Dr. Zander, an avid outdoor adventurer himself, described treatment and prevention techniques for muscular injuries that often plague active people and helped to clear up some of the mystery behind 'adjustments.'  He also armed participants with information for at-home therapy to help treat sore and contracted muscles.

*If you are an individual or business that would like to share your sustainable living or alternative health care practices with us contact the shop and ask for Rachel.

Staff Bicycle/Public Transportation Stats!

|

After collecting data and crunching numbers, the results are in: About half of the Next Adventure team bikes or rides MAX to work. Of those, over half use these non-car methods to get to work every day.
According to the Bike Geek's Gas Savings Calculator (www.thebikegeek.com) our staff saves about $600 dollars in gas while preventing about 2000 pounds of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere every year. Nice!

Fling'n Disc and Flip'n Burgers

|

Hello out there to all of you who were out at the Beaver State Fling this past weekend. You may have seen us at our booth or for a brief moment before practicing a little mouth to burger resuscitation. Hope you all enjoyed the food and had a good time. It was great to see the pro's out there and get an idea of how far this sport has really come. Here are some pics we took while we were out and about... Next Adventure is proud to be a part of the Disc Golf community; promoting local events like this one as well as other local affiliates like Stump Town Disc Golf and Huk Lab.

Marmot Vs. Mountain Hardware in the Battle-O-the-BBQ's:

| |

It was just a year ago that Next Adventure opened with Mountain Hardware and Marmot and began selling their gear and apparel. These are two incredible companies that set the bar in high quality outdoor gear and who's representatives know all the great details of their products and love what they do. This weekend our local Mountain Hardware rep., Jack Powell, and local Marmot rep., Stewart McCornack, "cooked off" for all of the staff and friends of Next Adventure. As they are both awesome, we felt it might be the only way to determine who was our favorite. Jack's BBQ ribs and Stewart's juicy lamb were incredibly good and it was impossible to decide. Darn it. Two trophies were in order and it looks like they might have to face off again. Jack and Stewart, we know it was a big week for both of you and we enjoyed the food and good company to the fullest. Thank you so much! It's a pleasure doing more than just business.
