2012 NAAC - Next Adventure Amateur Championship Disc Golf Tournament

One of the most anticipated disc golf tournaments of the year took place at Pier Park August 27th & 28th. This was the second year for this PDGA amateur only event, and thanks to the tournament directors of Firely Disc Golf Steve Carson, and Flight Crew member Ryan Gwillim 2012 did not disappoint. The player’s packs were amazing each participant was able to choose 4 discs, and also included was a high tech storm blocker jacket customized with each player’s name, PDGA number, and the NAAC logo. Next Adventure’s Flight Crew members Emma, Dan, Joey, and Cindy arrived early Saturday morning and pitched in to help set up, and assisted with registration.

Practice basket at the NAAC & one of the new benches!

The weather was awesome, and the course looked amazing with the new tee signs & kiosk which were installed last year, and the addition of 6 new benches installed on the Thursday before the event thanks to Next Adventure & Stumptown Disc Golf Club. Four rounds were played on Saturday with each pool playing two rounds. In order to fit all four rounds in on Saturday all the pin placements were in the short positions. Sunday each pool played two rounds, and the pin positions were moved into the long positions.

Tournament directors Ryan & Steve, and Bryan serving up lunch!

Lunch was provided by Next Adventure on Sunday. The players enjoyed hot dogs, chips, soda, and beer. After all divisions completed their final round the final nine commenced for the advanced men’s division. The top four advanced men Michale Medlock, Adam Cooney, Mike Ward, and Jeff Monett battle it out on a special 9 hole course to determine the winner of the advanced men’s division. A large gallery followed the final 9 card around Pier Park as they battled it out, and when the dust settled Michael Medlock came out on top as the winner of the advanced men’s division.

While the advanced men’s card was playing out the final 9 the Next Adventure Crew, Bryan, Ian, and Rob were busy at work preparing a delicious dinner for all the players. Ian grilled up pork loin & tri tip steak to perfection, which was accompanied by corn on the cob, toasted bread, and of course some refreshing brew. Flight Crew members Dan, Joey, Celeste, and Cindy pitched in preparing & serving up the awesome meal to the hungry disc golfers. After the awesome meal Flight Crew members Dan & Cindy ran a huge ring of fire with lots of great prizes for those who could sink those putts.
