Camping must-haves: at home and on the trail

The mountains are calling, and we must go! Although camping and hiking are year-round activities, we're anxiously awaiting the glorious return of Oregon sun, and in turn new summer adventures. We know that not all explorers are alike or in need of the same gear. Some of us will take a simple walk in Forest Park or enjoy a back-yard tent night, some are hard-core Mt. Hood adventurers, and others are right smack-dab in the middle. Wherever activity you choose, we’ve got you covered with the right gear at the right price. Camping must haves

The Homebody

Who doesn’t love a backyard gathering? For folks who like to hang at home, outfit your backyard for a hangout, and chill and grill the night away. To effectively call yourself a backyard pro, you need a few items to ensure maximum leisure.

The seat: Nothing’s better than a hammock! Whether you use it in the backyard or on your mountain travels, get ready to never want to get out! Now, if you'd rather sit than swing, you can always go for the super comfy Deluxe Folding Camp Chair.

The treat: Who doesn’t appreciate a good cuddle? Grab the Kelty Bestie Blanket for maximum cozy (and throw on your bed later). This blanket is good for the park, around the fire, or wherever you need a bit of warmth.

The heat: Have you heard of the Solo Stove? This is the best backyard campfire option around! Pull out those graham crackers and marshmallows and invite your friends for a smokeless and easy-to-clean-up smores night.

The Cruiser

Whether you’re a new or middle-of-the-road camping or hiking enthusiast, you’ll want to gear up for safety, making sure the bears steer clear and your bum stays warm.

The pack: Okay, y'all...the women's Deuter Trail BackPack is rad! It’s lightweight and versatile for those strenuous hikes while providing some serious storage. It also keeps you cool!

The sack: Ever wanted to feel like a mummy? Check out this WildlyDown sleeping bag. It’s light enough to carry on an overnight trek but will keep you warm as snug as a bug in a rug on those chilly evenings!

The (liquid) snack: First and foremost, never go anywhere without your coffee and press. Just because you're in the woods, you don’t have to sacrifice your daily fix! Add a jetboil, and your morning will be golden. Oh, and for all those yummies the bears may want to share, don’t forget your Bearvault canister to keep the bears away and your snacks safe!

The Climber

Now, for all of you serious adventurers pining for the great outdoors, completely unplugged and off the grid, we’ve got you covered. We know you'll be keeping in mind warmth and safety as you pack to take on the wilderness.

The feet: Keen knows what they're doing when it comes to hiking shoes! Gals, check out the Targhee III for some serious comfort. And for the guys, Salomon knows what's up!

The heat: There’s nothing worse than cold feet. Seriously, nothing. Make sure you’ve got your Darn Tough socks, available in three colors! Let’s also not forget about keeping your upper limbs warm with these Patagonia hoodies for the guys and the gals.

The eat: Do you dream of meals that don’t require you to just add water? For your backpacking adventures, pack this versatile MSR stove system to feed your co-adventurers in style. If you're trying to be fancy, remember to bring these cool utensils! Local camp kitchen brand Food for the Sole is packaged fresh for when you need dinner in a pinch.

Now that you’re all geared up and ready for summer fun, we hope you enjoy your upcoming excursions, whether from the safety of your backyard or in the beautiful wilderness. Don't forget to visit one of our four stores or shop online for all your camping and climbing essentials.
