Gear Review: ENO Sub7 Hammock and Helios Straps

Value Rating: 8 Durability Rating: 7 Overall Rating: 8 Location of Test: Gas Works Park Seattle, Washington and Mt. Tabor Portland, Oregon Duration of Test: 2+ Hours per trip Product Name: Sub7 Hammock and Helios Straps Product Brand: Eagles Nest Outfitters Best Use: Excellent for any hammock fan that wants to chill without having to carry a lot of bulk. Sub7 Hammock The Full Review: This is not the first hammock I have purchased. My first hammock was a Kammok Roo Double hammock with Python straps. Fantastic product but it was a little bulky for my needs. I decided to try out the sub7 by Eno as I heard it is remarkably strong for its ultralight 6.5oz weight. It does not disappoint. I also picked up the Eno Helios hammock straps to go along with it. Those straps are wicked strong Dyneema line and weigh only 5.7oz. Sub7 Hammock Sub7 Hammock The sub7 is most easily compared to a standard single sized hammock so don't expect to fit another person or fur friend in it with you or you will likely tear your hammock. It’s worth mentioning as well that the hammock is made from diamond ripstop nylon to aid with its durability. This hammock is perfect for my uses as an ultralight backpacker and for when I want to drop the bulk of my daypack while hiking up Mt Tabor or around Forest Park. Sub7 Hammock Sub7 Hammock The Good 6.5oz for the hammock and 5.7oz for the straps Not bulky at all Quality materials from a quality brand Comfortable to nap/sleep in Easy to set up The Bad: Helios straps are short(96in) and hard to wrap around thicker trees With all ultralight gear, dropping weight tends to be proportional to durability. We'll see how long it lasts once I reach the 1-year point(owned it for 6 months now). I am optimistic. The Bottom Line: A high quality brilliantly designed ultralight hammocK. Nothing beats the quality and weight of this hammock on the market right now so to me its a no-brainer.
