Staff Picks
As a thru-hiker, I try to focus on gear choices that minimize size and weight without compromising functionality. I carried the Sawyer Squeeze filter on both the PCT and CDT and it never failed me (as long as you sleep with it when it's cold!) If you are going to use a stove the Pocketrocket 2 is a small but mighty choice. While most people opt to carry an air-pad I think the Z-lite is a great choice; it's light, no inflating/deflating needed, and you can bust it out any time during the day for some lounging! Micro spikes are an excellent safe, lightweight choice to have for those early morning snowy passes. And last but NOT least, having a fanny pack is gonna be your secret weapon for enjoying your time in town. Plus, you can use it for storage on trail even if you don't choose to wear it. Happy trails!
