Getting in an accident stinks! Getting in an accident on water stinks even more! Don’t put yourself in jeopardy by not knowing what to do in the event of an accident. Our 2 day Swiftwater Rescue course puts knowledge into action and will arm you with the knowledge and know how to help a paddler out in a sticky situation. Throughout the course, we will emphasize approaching situations from “simple to complex,” building upon lessons on land to implementing them in the water.


A sample of Skills Covered in the Swift Water Rescue Course:

  • Proactive prevention of river accidents and injuries.
  • Key self-rescue skills.
  • Avoiding river hazards by understanding hydrology, hazards, and river features.
  • Fast, simple, low-risk strategies for management of river accidents
  • Methods for recovering swimmers, loose boats, and equipment.
  • Advanced rope-based and in-water skills
  • Experience using a rescue PFD and understand its strengths and weaknesses
  • Rescue scene management principles needed within a paddling group

Qualifying participants can receive documentation of ACA Level 4 Safety & Rescue Skills.


Experience Necessary: None Required; Recommended prior experience in a Class II/III river environment; Comfort swimming in moving water recommended.


Equipment Needed: All necessary teaching equipment will be provided. We recommend using personal protective equipment (Drysuit; Type 5 PFD; Helmet) but have a limited quantity of these items available for rental purposes.
