Outdoor School FAQ's

Cancelation and Refund Policy

You can receive a full refund if you cancel MORE THAN 72 HOURS PRIOR to the trip. If you cancel or postpone LESS THAN 72 HOURS PRIOR a refund will not be issued. No shows are not eligible for any refund or credit. You may arrange to have someone attend in your place, as long as that change is made more than 24 hours in advance and you notify us with the registration information for that person so that we may approve it.

Trips will run regardless of weather conditions, except for situations we deem unsafe. If Next Adventure cancels your trip, either due to unsafe weather conditions or low enrollment, you will receive a full refund. We will make this decision as far in advance as possible, but no later than 24 hours before the trip.

Q- I'm just getting into hiking or backpacking - How can I learn more about preparing for the trail?
A- We can answer your question on the trail, you can attend one of our free Classes or Clinics, or just stop by the Outdoor Store (426 SE Grand Ave, Portland, OR) and talk to our staff.

Q- I like to hike alone, do I have to stay with the group?
A- You can hike at your own pace.  There's plenty of room to stretch out on the trail, so you can feel alone but not be far from your guide.

Q- What if I can't complete the whole hike?
A- Our trips are structured so that you can hike your own hike.  We'll customize the trip to fit your needs.

Q- What about bathroom breaks?
A- We'll make "comfort stops" before we reach the trailhead.  Some trailheads have toilets (usually "vault" style), but most don't.  Once we are on the trail, there are usually trees and bushes to be found.

Q- What should I wear?
A- Thin wicking layers that aren't cotton; sturdy trail shoes/boots; rain, sun & wind protection.

Q- What should I bring with me for day trips?
A- A day pack containing your lunch, water, snacks, extra layers and trail essentials.

Q-  Are children allowed to participate on hikes and trips?
A-  Regularly scheduled tours are limited to adults 18+, and teenagers 14-17 when accompanied by an adult.  Contact Outdoor School if you would like to schedule a custom private tour with younger children. There are no age restrictions on custom private group tours

Q-  Can I bring my dog or pet on hikes and trips?
A-   Sorry, but no.  We love pets, but we just can't do it.

Q- What if my schedule doesn't allow me to participate on regularly scheduled trips?
A- You can schedule a custom private tour. Contact Outdoor School to find out more about scheduling a custom private tour.
