ACA Level 1 Introduction to Kayak Certification w/ Heather Herbeck & Patrick Higgins
This course is designed as a short program emphasizing safety, enjoyment and skill acquisition and targeted for entry level individuals in public, private and commercial settings. This course is appropriate for all kayak craft, including traditional decked kayaks, inflatables and sit on tops.
So, if you are an instructor, business owner, guide, club boater or want this knowledge for your personal paddling or paddling with your family and friends on flat water, this course is designed to give you the knowledge to safely and competently do that.
>Heather Herbeck: Heather has over 14 years of whitewater kayaking under her belt, with over 9 years of coaching. Personally, Heather enjoys a variety of kayaking disciplines. She competes in extreme kayaking races both in the US and internationally, races slalom, explores new rivers all over the world and ‘lives and breathes’ whitewater. Her home sits right along the White Salmon River, which is her favorite river to paddle. >Patrick Higgins: Patrick has 7 years experience of teaching paddle sports and certifications in various paddling disciplines including ACA Level 5 Whitewater Kayaking, ACA Level 3 Coastal Touring, ACA Level 3 Whitewater Stand Up Paddle Boarding and is a UKCC Coach Level 1 and BCU certified. Patrick currently works as a programs coordinator at Next Adventure teaching a variety of classes and a guest instructor at Otter Bar Kayak School.
Course Locations: (Depending on flows, weather, and other logistics)
Flatwater: Clackamette Lake or the Willamette River
Class I/II =Clackamas River
Expect river temperatures of 38 to 48 degrees and air temps of 50 to 60 degrees (As always, be prepared for cold, rainy weather).
